James joined CVA in 2025 and brings over 20 years of corporate strategy, transformation and M&A experience, having worked in a broad range of large corporates and consulting firms, both in New Zealand and internationally.

Prior to joining CVA, James was a Director in the Management Consulting team at PwC, delivering strategy and transformation focussed engagements for a wide range of clients in New Zealand and Australia. James' previous corporate experience includes Fletcher Building, where he was GM Strategy and Group Performance, and Fonterra, where he held various commercial and strategy roles. Prior to relocating to Auckland, James worked in consulting for KPMG and Datamonitor in London.

James' key areas of focus are business improvement through strategy design across the entire value chain, both in the context of driving growth and organically or in a transaction environment. His diverse experience and in-depth knowledge make him a trusted advisor to clients across New Zealand, and his sector experience includes primary industry, infrastructure, financial services and manufacturing.

James holds a Masters Degree in Economics from the University of Edinburgh and is a member of the UK Society of Investment Professionals.
