After completing my studies, choosing an industry in which to establish a career was a daunting task. I wanted to join an organisation that could provide me with a variety of responsibilities and rapid career progression. Upon further investigation, I realised that there were few industries that could offer what I wanted and even fewer companies that could meet my expectations.

CVA has proven that it is a company that can provide a broad range of responsibilities and has a clear career path based on merit. CVA’s high performance culture has allowed me to continue developing my skills and has encouraged me to strive to extend my knowledge and experience. My colleagues are more than willing to share their experiences and provide me with the support needed to succeed at CVA.

In my first year, my role consisted predominantly of performing research (be it on the web or on the phone), building models and writing presentations – although this was never mundane or boring as it provided exposure to a multitude of topics. I worked across a number of industries and was able to travel for various projects. While the work was often time consuming and challenging, it was definitely rewarding and provided me with the opportunity to learn and develop fundamental skills.

By my second year, however, my role had already changed, with my responsibilities now including directing junior consultants in the same tasks I had been doing in the previous year and interacting more closely with clients face-to-face. The standard of work I was expected to produce was higher, I gained a better understanding of the firm, the clients we worked with and the value we created.

During my third year, this trend continued. I was given responsibility for small projects, or for directing small teams in larger projects. My role within CVA had rapidly expanded from ‘doing’ to include ‘structuring’ and ‘reviewing’. CVA has allowed me to progress as quickly as I can develop and not tied career progression to a standard ‘one-size-fits-all’ template. In addition, I have felt supported by senior members of the team at all times and never felt left out on my own.
