Often in life you can feel like a reed - a single, weak plant blown by the winds of the world. It is important to remember, however, that when bundled together reeds can withstand many a formidable challenge. I found this to be true in my life at CVA where I have faced many challenging situations. The environment at CVA and the banding together of my colleagues has allowed me to face these challenges and learn and develop in so many ways.
I joined CVA after working in financial services in Japan and have had a variety of experiences in numerous industries. This has included logistics (including CEP - courier, express and parcel), telecommunication, energy, financial services, robotics and medical services in Asia and beyond. These varied industries and topics have provided excellent learning opportunities for me and given me a broader business perspective in a multi-cultural environment.
CVA has a strong cross-border and cross-industry expertise, leveraging more than 20 years of consulting experience and taking advantage of the skills of our colleagues from around the world from varied backgrounds. At my base office Melbourne, there are Australians, French, Indonesian, Malaysian, Thai and Japanese, who have financial, accounting, management, engineering or law study background from banks, accounting firms, manufacturers or other service industries.
CVA's core asset is our people which, to be fair, is the same as other leading consulting companies. CVA, however, is a "boutique" global consulting firm, so to remain competitive in the industry it is vital for CVA to create an environment that can harmonise many cultures and value their contribution. These varied backgrounds bring diversity within the firm that is quite distinctive and our clients derive a unique value from this in the solutions we develop. Additionally, I've found that people within the firm are thirsty to learn and grow - this is one of the driving-forces of the firm. I believe that working in CVA, you have the opportunity to maximise your individual potential. While this may sound like a competitive environment, it is a competition to better yourself rather than to "beat" your colleague. I've found that all those I work with are actually very unique and I feel fortunate to work with these people I really admire.
Our work is actually very challenging (and exciting) both intellectually and in dealing with people. In my career at CVA I have spent much time shuttling between Australia and Japan. This opportunity to work cross-border definitely requires a mindset where you are willing to learn. Since working in this multi-cultural environment I've come to appreciate the importance of a flexible attitude and "learning" mindset. It can be a challenge to constantly be open-minded and willing to learn from people of a different background and culture. The upside is you can expand your versatility and maybe even understand the essence of what makes various people tick. Working at CVA has given me the chance to do this through various challenging projects.
Given all the learning opportunities I have received and the supportive group of people I work with, I have come to realise the immense value of working at CVA. I can confidently say that if you want the chance to work in an environment that you have probably never faced before, that gives you the opportunity to learn and is with a great group of people who will band together with you to work as a team, then CVA may be the place for you - but it is always your decision.
