During my years of study at the Political Science Institute of Paris and HEC, I became interested in a variety of subjects - economics, sociology, public law and economic geography to name a few. I wanted my professional life to similarly follow in this vein. Maybe an academic position in economics or consumption sociology? But I also wanted to work on "real life" problems in business.
As I looked for my first job, this was my dilemma - how can my job allow me to address a broad range of topics and issues in the real world?
Two years after I joined CVA in the Paris office, I can confirm that I have found the right job.
I could describe my experience at CVA to date as two different professional lives, working for the same firm. The first "life" involved working on portfolio strategy and energy pricing matters in the European energy sector. The second, working on productivity and geospatial questions in the finance industry in Belgium. Every case has been the occasion to learn and discover something new - new problem solving methodologies, new industry contexts, new people and new ways of working.
Working in strategy consulting for CVA appears to have been a very good choice for me. I particularly appreciate the quantitative and very rigorous approach to our cases that all CVA consultants display. I also like the opportunity to be creative and inventive in how we solve the problems.
I have also been very pleasantly surprised at how much I appreciate the people aspect of CVA. I have found it very professional, friendly, international and intellectually stimulating. Friendly, because strategy consulting requires working in quite small project team structures which allows these kind of relationships to grow. International, because a project often requires you to work in a foreign country, or with other offices. Finally, intellectually stimulating because you work with a select group of experienced people, who worked in different fields, have different backgrounds or lived in different countries; a diversity yet to be exhausted in two years of experience!
