Consulting provides an amazing learning and personal development opportunity particularly for university graduates. What's better than working in an environment that fosters friendship and personal growth alongside hard work and high quality output?
Since I joined CVA I have worked on a number of topics ranging from the strategic restructuring of the procurement organisation of a global manufacturing company to the distribution channel optimization of a utility provider.
After graduating from university I had made the decision I wanted to move into management consulting. The question was whether to choose a small or a large firm. While some prefer the "safe", more planned and well foreseeable development path in a large company, I liked the idea of working in a more flexible, personal and less hierarchical environment. I believe it's the key question for everyone that considers entering management consulting and it's less of a rational choice but much more one of personal character and work expectation.
From my point of view, the biggest benefit of a small firm like CVA is the high level of responsibility consultants are given at a very early stage of their professional career combined with the close collaboration with senior staff. While it may not be for everyone, I very much enjoyed the training-on-the-job experience with guidance of my project managers.
I consider CVA unique in that it combines the benefits of a boutique with a global approach both in terms of client work and internal development. Over the past 20 month I had the opportunity to work on projects in six different countries with colleagues from eight different offices. Global trainings and company events ensure an exceptionally strong corporate identity, something many companies claim to have but very few truly "deliver".
